Do you believe in what you do? Every day?

Apr 11, 2022

I do now, but I didn’t for a long time.

It wasn’t that I knew I didn’t believe in what I was doing, something just felt off.

In my younger days I quite liked my jobs. I worked with some fun people, sometimes I was challenged, it was okay.

But as I got older, I started to feel different, more unfulfilled.

Still, I couldn’t put my finger on it. Working life was just ordinary and I hung out for the weekend and holidays for adventure.

It got harder and harder to go back to work on those Monday mornings. Back to the same old ordinary routine…

My enthusiasm waned until one Sunday night I thought “Is this it, is this all there is for people like me?”

2 days before I’d been sitting in a Florida Hotel listening to a couple about the same age as me discussing where they were going next…

It wasn’t home and it wasn’t back to work.

She was writing travel articles and he was remotely managing his property rental business.

They were free and they believed in what they were doing. They were going on their next adventure.

I was going back to work and I was lost.

So indoctrinated by the system, my roll at the time included developing electronic time sheets which my colleagues would have to fill in every day. They had to account for every single minute they were at work so the fat cats upstairs could bill more hours.

Even typing that line makes me shake my head. It feels like something from Orwell.

I didn’t believe in what I did and something had to change. But what?

At the time I had a side hustle doing some freelance design and marketing.

It wasn’t making enough for me to jump ship, but it was a start. It was a life raft and I grabbed it with both hands.

Numb to the bone, each day I found extra hours after work and built that business up to a point where I could survive.

Now I was doing something I believed in.

It wasn’t about the work, it was about what it would afford me; my freedom.

Nearly 20 years and many other ventures later, that business still serves me today.

I’ve run Great Circle from the UK, France, Jersey, Australia and now here in Spain. Together we’ve been on amazing adventures…

In ONE LIFE my job now is to help others break free from the 9-to-5 so they can live life on their terms.

Now THAT I do believe in . . . because one thing I know for sure is that life really is too short to be chained to a desk.

And here’s the thing; each and everyone of us has the opportunity (make that obligation) to turn our idea or passion into a thriving online business. It just depends whether you believe it or not.

Have a great Monday my friend.

I you’re feeling lost today, drop me a line and let me know. I’ll write back.
