Are you still living for the weekend?Nov 16, 2022
If I made it to 6 pm on a Friday without having had a nervous breakdown, I used to consider that a successful week.
The Friday routine was always the same; scrape out the door by 6 pm and head for the large, average and overpriced glass of wine to begin the next 48 hours of numbness.
If I was REALLY lucky, the sun might actually show its face on Saturday or Sunday, but more often than not I swore there was a weather conspiracy against me.
But even so, those two days without constant emails, phone calls and pressure from work were like a life raft.
I’m not the greatest at maths, but when I pondered the numbers, they really didn’t stack up. 5 days of brutal pressure for 2 days of escape - that didn’t add up at all, in fact, those work days were the cause of my dangerously high blood pressure.
I remember the conversations with Andy when he’d plead with me to give up that hideous routine, “Babe, you only have one life and if you don’t change something now, it’s going to be a lot shorter than you think.”
But I couldn’t see it until it was nearly too late. I was well and truly in the salary trap and I was living for the weekends.
Does any of this sound familiar to you? Do you feel like you’re living for the weekend too?
I get it, the pressure to pay bills, the expectation of others, the fear of the future, they all keep us at the grindstone, but please let me tell you this…
It doesn’t have to be that way. I was terrified to give up my career and the perceived security blanket, but once I did, my wellness and happiness went to another level.
Sure I don’t have the big salary that I did before, but I’m no longer living for the weekend because every day is beautiful now. In fact, our cost of living is a third of what it was and our quality of life is 10X.
This is one of the reasons we created ONE LIFE - to help others find their way out and live their days on this precious planet the way they want.
